What is Walk & Talk Therapy?

Walk & Talk Therapy is becoming increasingly more popular and simply involves moving therapy from the conventional therapy room setting to the outdoors, walking side by side with your therapist.

Here are a few of the benefits:


1. Bilateral stimulation

This means integrating functions from the body and brain in a rhythmic pattern. It is often used in therapeutic settings such as EMDR therapy to reduce the symptoms of trauma and other mental health conditions. Walk & Talk therapy is a simple form of Bilateral stimulation where walking whilst talking helps to loosen up our thinking, help regulate the brain’s response to stress, promote relaxation and allow for the processing of emotions previously stuck.

2. Anxiety Reduction

The simple act of walking releases endorphins which are natural mood lifters that help to alleviate stress and anxiety.

3. Nature

Growing research in this area looks at the innate biological drive humans have to see connection with natural environments and other forms of life e.g. why so many of us have pets. This is known as Biolophilia and has shown to improve well-being, reduce stress and calm the nervous system..

4. Sunlight

Being outside exposes us to sunlight which is crucial for our body to manufacture Vitamin D. Vitamin D is an important in helping us regulate our moods and research has shown low levels of Vitamin D can contribute to increased symptoms of depression and anxiety.


Is it right for me?

Whilst the traditional office setting has many benefits, it does not suit everyone. Neurodiverse people for example can struggle with the conventional face to face therapy setting and may find talking whilst walking side by side with their therapist a huge relief. I will generally be able to offer Walk & Talk sessions in East Leeds within the following postcodes LS8, LS9, LS14, LS15 and LS25. Please enquire below if you aren’t sure about the location or if you fall just outside of these areas but might still be interested.

Fees

Sessions will be £55 for an hour session.

I accept payment by card, contactless or bank transfer.
